Tips for Grades K-2

  • 1

Formal lessons for K-2 should total no more than 90 minutes per day — the rest of learning happens through play, conversation, and read-alouds.

  • 2

Do the hardest subject (usually phonics or math) right after Bible when the child is freshest.

  • 3

If a lesson goes poorly, stop early. A short successful lesson beats a long frustrating one.

  • 4

Read aloud every single day. This builds vocabulary, listening comprehension, and a love of learning faster than almost anything else.

"She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness."

— Proverbs 31:27 (ESV)
